Forlife Interactive and developer Buried Things announced the release date for roguelike puzzle game Cursed Words: The Word Game That Isn’t. Cursed Words will release on April 2 on Steam PC.
Cursed Words isn’t shying away from its obvious gaming inspiration: Belatro! The poker-like deckbuilder from 2024 proved incredibly popular, expanding on a single-player version of poker with increasingly zany, rules-breaking combos and special card abilities.
In Cursed Words, we’re using letter tiles to create words. The official description mentions Scrabble (or Words with Friends, for you kids out there), but the letter grid is actually more like Boggle.
Like Belatro, the rules and abilities start getting hilariously crazy, including using numbers, chess pieces, and other symbols to create weird words. But also, the words don’t matter?
“Why a word game?” said Niru Fekri-Arnold, Co-founder, Buried Things. “Because we’re really smart. And we’re British, so we sound even smarter than that. But don’t worry, Cursed Words accepts American words too.”
Cursed Words features 11 different playable characters that feature different powers and synergies, plus randomized shops and upgrades, and over 300 stickers and stamps, creating a ridiculous amount of combinations and unique runs. Each run is defined by the character, plus their upgrades, stamp loadout, and consumable tiles.
Oh, and there’s a free demo available on Steam.
