We may not be getting Pokémon Winds and Waves this year (boo), but Pokémon fans can enjoy new spinoff, Pokémon Pokopia, out now exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 ($59.99).

Pokopia is a cozy life sim a la Animal Crossing, set in the world of Pokémon. Instead of a human, players take on the role of a Ditto who can transform into a human. It’s an important distinction, as Ditto can copy the abilities of other Pokémon, unlocking new moves and abilities, such as Squirtle’s Water Gun, to grow crops.

Throughout their adventures, players will meet friendly Pokémon allies and mentors, such as Professor Tangrowth, and learn to change their surroundings to attract more Pokémon friends, and thus learn new abilities to shape their world.

Players can join with up to three other friends in local wireless or online multiplayer (online multiplayer requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership).

The Switch 2 also makes use of the GameShare feature, inviting other players who don’t even own the game, to download and join their session. GameShare multiplayer is even compatible with the original Switch!

Like most life sims, Pokopia will also feature ongoing special events. The first limited-time event is “More Spores for Hoppip,” which begins Monday, March 9. Players can befriend Hoppip and collect spores for picnic-themed items. These items can be used to create habitats for Skiploom and Jumpluff, two Pokémon that normally can’t be found without these special items. The special event ends March 24.

Pokémon Pokopia is available on Switch 2, and rated E for Everyone.

The Pokemon Company recently unveiled the next mainline Pokémon games, Pokémon Winds and Waves, which are due out in 2027 on Switch 2.
