Nintendo has released action game Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment on Switch 2, digitally on the Nintendo eShop and in physical stores ($69.99).

The spinoff from The Legend of Zelda series explores a major plot arc from Tears of the Kingdom: Princess Zelda’s journey into Hyrule’s past. In what may be a series first(?), players play as the titular princess as she works alongside the legendary Sages to battle the forces of Ganondorf.

Zelda and the Sages each have their own unique fighting styles as they battle through hordes of enemies in the action-packed combat popularized by the Dynasty Warriors series. Zelda and company can also utilize the many Zonai devices to create different environmental effects, and unleash powerful combos.

Allies can work together to perform Sync Strikes, with different ally combinations producing different attacks.

Age of Imprisonment also supports local two-player co-op via split-screen on a single system, or via GameShare. With GameShare, two players can play on two different systems (locally) with only a single copy of the game.

Age of Imprisonment is the second game in the Hyrule Warriors spinoff series. The first game, Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity, was also set in the past, retelling the the plight of Hyrule before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Players with save data from Age of Calamity and Tears of the Kingdom will receive special in-game items: the High Guard’s Claymore, and the High Guard’s Sword, respectively.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is available now on Switch 2, and rated T for Teen.
