Hyrule Warriors is getting a sequel with the newly announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, launching November 20 on Switch. It’s also a surprise prequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Before you get too excited, this is still a Warriors game, an action-packed hack and slash series known for over-the-top battles with hordes of enemies and fast-paced combos. Previous releases include Fire Emblem Warriors and Dynasty Warriors.

Age of Calamity will tie directly into Breath of the Wild, depicting the events of the 100-year old Great Calamity, which serves as a harrowing backdrop for Breath of the Wild. Many characters from the Zelda series will return as playable heroes, including Link and Zelda, as well as the four original Champions from Breath of the Wild.

Aside from all the hacking and slashing, Age of Calamity will also feature environmental puzzles, crafting, and shops to get new items. Players will also be able to use the Sheikah Slate from Breath of the Wild.

“Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a must-play for fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior VP. “Roll up your blue tunic sleeves and get ready for a dramatic and surprising adventure through Hyrulean history this holiday season.”

The original Hyrule Warriors released on Wii U in 2014, and became one of the system’s best-selling games before getting a Definitive Edition on Switch in 2018.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will launch November 20 on Switch. Digital pre-orders are available now, with retail to follow soon. It’s rated T for Teen.
