During the annual Tokyo Game Show, Chinese developer Seed Lab revealed a new trailer for upcoming life sim, Starsand Island, along with a release date. Starsand Island will release on Steam PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on February 1, 2026.
But we won’t have to wait that long to jump into this gorgeous game. While Kickstarter backers are invited to the exclusive closed alpha test, a wider free demo will arrive ahead of the Steam Next Fest.
The Starsand Island demo will release on Steam on October 8 (Steam Next Fest begins October 13 and runs through October 20).
Starsand Island takes players to an idyllic island paradise, with easy farming, adorable animals, friendly neighbors, and beautiful scenery. The island is fully explorable on foot, or mounted on a variety of vehicles, from animals to skateboards and cars. Form friendships and bonds, discover hidden secrets, fend off dangerous creatures, and customize your own home and farm.
It sounds like a bunch of life sim check boxes, but one of Starsand Island’s biggest appeal is its most obvious: dat Studio Ghibli-esque art style. And the trailers certainly show it off! Mmmhmm, real nice.
Starsand Island will feature full customization for player homes and characters, with more options coming post-launch, including “social and collaborative gameplay.” More details about Starsand Island’s multiplayer features will be explained in the months leading to launch.
