One of the most iconic children’s animated films of all time is now a video game: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is available now on Steam PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox ($39.99).

And yes, it’s still September, dang it! I love the holidays, but let my spooky season breathe first!

Rudolph is a 3D platforming adventure starring Rudolph, Clarice, Hermey, and Yukon Cornelius as playable characters. Each character has their own unique abilities.

Fun fact: I based one of my one-off D&D characters on Yukon Cornelius. Which is to say, I was literally playing Yukon Cornelius. Fun dude!

The video game has players exploring various parts of the classic Rankin & Bass stop-motion film, including Christmastown, The Island of Misfit Toys, and Santa’s Castle. Players can gather Christmas collectibles, tackle platforming challenges, and complete mini-games.

The platformer also supports full split-screen co-op.

I can’t speak to the game’s quality (the level designs look pretty barren and empty), but judging from the trailer, they certainly nailed the nostalgic art style, and did a pretty decent job with the voices. Plus, they include the classic musical pieces from the movie, including the title track (obviously).

But that price, yeesh! Even with the launch week 10% discount, $35-40 seems a bit ridiculous.

The Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer game is developed by Headless Chicken Games, and published by GameMill Entertainment. It’s rated E for Everyone.
