The latest Nintendo Direct celebrated Mario’s 40th anniversary by revealing the teaser trailer for the next Mario animated film: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The sequel is coming to theaters April 3, 2026.
Plus, the Nintendo Direct announced the original Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch as a remaster 2-in-1 collection in October.
The only new Mario game announcement was for Mario Tennis Fever, a follow-up to 2018’s Mario Tennis Aces. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a wonderful side-scrolling co-op platformer, is also getting a new Switch 2 edition with new co-op content, arriving next year.
Nintendo is also producing the weird but funny chatty flowers from Super Mario Bros. Wonder as physical Talking Flower toys, releasing next Spring.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is an all-new Yoshi game, and technically part of the Mario 40th anniversary, even if Mario himself doesn’t seem to show up. Yoshi discovers a magic book, and explores its pages via side-scrolling platforming.
The Nintendo Direct also announced a new expansion for Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush. The post-game DLC is set on DK Island, featuring collectible Emeralds and new fashions to unlock. The DLC launches today, along with a free demo of the base game.
Pokémon Pokopia looks like Minecraft meets Pokémon, starring a Ditto who can copy other Pokémon abilities.
Oh, and several high-profile games are coming to Switch 2, including Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Stardew Valley, Hades 2, and Resident Evil Requiem. Plus, new paid DLC confirmed for Pokémon Legends Z-A, Mega Dimensions, which adds more Mega Evolutions.
