During the latest Nintendo Direct, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Pokopia, a new cozy life sim coming to Nintendo Switch 2 next year.
Instead of a trainer, Pokopia stars a playable Ditto, who awakens on an untamed land, and transforms into a human (with those unsettling, pinprick Ditto eyes).
As the Ditto explores the blocky, Minecraft-like world, they encounter other Pokémon, such as Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. The Pokémon are friendly and talkative, and help power Ditto’s signature feature — gaining their abilities!
For example, Bulbasaur teaches the ability Leafage. By using Leafage, Ditto can plant new grass spots, while Squirtle’s Water Gun can water plants. Several OG Pokémon are shown with usable abilities, including Hitmonchan, Scyther, and Drilbur.
The player can also use a crafting table to make furniture, and even buildings, creating their own charming Pokémon village.
The end of the trailer also shows a quick glimpse of another Ditto-like human character. Does this mean the game will support multiplayer?
Pokémon Pokopia is the first Pokémon life sim, and looks like a wonderfully cozy combination of gameplay and IP. Pokopia is launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
The Nintendo Direct also revealed some new details about the next big Pokémon release, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The new trailer confirmed Mega Evolutions for the Gen 6 starters, Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja. The Direct also revealed the first paid DLC expansion for Z-A, called Mega Dimensions, adding new Mega Evolutions, including Mega Raichu.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A will release on October 16.
