During the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Presentation, Swedish game studio Windup Games announced their debut title, Hela. Hela is set to launch in 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
No, it’s not about Asgardian Marvel villains, though it is associated with Scandinavian folk lore.
Hela is a third-person adventure game starring a group of mousey witch familiars. When the friendly witch falls ill, it’s up to her tiny allies to pick up the slack and set off on a quest to heal her.
The 3D exploration is set in the wild nature of northern Scandinavia, and features puzzles, action, foraging, and brewing.
Windup Games includes the creators of the Unravel series, which featured side-scrolling platforming, puzzle-solving, and co-op support.
“We’re incredibly excited to be part of the Nintendo Direct and to finally introduce Hela to a new group of fans who have long been asking if the game would come to Switch,” said Alexander Benitez, Head of Studio, Windup Games. “Together with our publisher, Knights Peak, we feel honored by this opportunity and truly believe Hela will be a perfect fit within the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup — a title that speaks directly to the tastes and expectations of its audience.”
Judging by the trailer, the realistic graphics and 3D exploration is darn impressive. It will support online multiplayer as well as local split-screen co-op.
Hela is due to launch in 2026. It’s published by Knights Peak Interactive.
