Monster Hunter fans are having a great year between Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The latest Capcom Monster Hunter Digital Event revealed the new content coming in the 3.0 update (May 27) and more details regarding Monstie raising and combat in Wings of Ruin (July 9).

The new trailer for Monster Hunter Stories 2 continued to reveal more plot details on the heroes and the mysterious wing-less Rathalos. A strange light has begun appearing, infecting monsters and making them enraged. The hero will set out to discover the connection between these rays, the disappearance of Rathalos, and the birth of the Razewing Ratha.

As in the first game, Riders will need to explore Monster Hunter Dens to collect eggs. with rarer dens containing more powerful eggs with rare gene combinations. Once hatched, players can use the Rite of Channeling to confer genes from one Monstie to another, potentially granting them abilities from other monsters. Monsties could equip a wide range of abilities, or double-down and specialize on a few powerful skills.

Monster Hunter Rise is updating to 3.0 tomorrow, May 27. The free title update will add new monsters, like the flagship foe from Monster Hunter Generations Ultiamte, Valstrax. A new variant, Crimson Glow Valstrax, will appear in Rise, able to fly by changing its jet-like wings. Apex Zinogre was also confirmed, and bears a permanent golden lightning design with extra thunder powers.

The update also provides a proper ending to the tease that accompanied the end of the base game, with a meeting between the Elder Dragons Narwa and Ibushi. The Digital Event didn’t spoil what the ending entails, but we’re guessing there’s a new monster that we’ll have to fight.

Also announced is DLC Pack 3 for Monster Hunter Rise. This pack adds more cosmetic features, such as voices, gestures, hairstyles, and stickers.

The roadmap teased future updates, including mulitple Capcom Collaborations, beginning with outfitting your Palico with the same outfit seen in Monster Hunter Stories 2 by completing an event in Mid-June.

Monster Hunter Rise 3.0 is coming May 27. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is launching July 9 on PC (Steam) and Switch. It’s rated E10+. Monster Hunter Rise is rated T for Teen.
