When Pokémon Legends: Arceus was first revealed, we were given a vague release of Early 2022. Nintendo has recently confirmed the release date as January 28, 2022.

Arceus is an all new Pokémon game for the Switch that takes place in the far-flung past of the Sinnoh region, the same region as Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which are getting remakes this November.

In these early days, event the concept of Pokémon Trainers and Leagues don’t exist yet. Instead you’re an explorer and surveyor, out to create the region’s first official Pokédex by, well, catching ’em all.

You won’t find much in the way of towns or cities in this wild land. Explore grasslands, lakes, beaches, and other wilderness locations, with gameplay that looks heavily inspired from the free-roaming Wild Area in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Instead of waiting until combat, you’ll be able to sneak up on Pokémon in the wild to hurl steampunk Pokéballs. To start the classic turn-based combat, throw an ally Pokéball and unleash them to battle the wild Pokémon. Starting Pokémon options are drawn from several different generations with Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott still providing the classic Grass, Fire, and Water options.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will launch on January 28, 2022 on Switch. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
