Merge Games and developer Jankenteam are bringing the classic Sega platformer Alex Kidd to the modern age with Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, coming next year to PC and consoles.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a full remake of the original 80s platformer on the Sega Master System, including new art and tighter controls. The remake also features new levels, new and remastered music tracks, improved boss battles, and multiple game modes, including a Boss Rush mode with nothing but boss fights.

Armed with a power bracelet, Alex Kidd must rescue the citizens of Radaxian from the evil Janken.

The updated version also includes the full original 1986 platformer under Retro Mode, allowing players to seamlessly switch between the original game and the modern remake.

Alex Kidd was popular enough to spawn a 16-bit sequel, Alex Kidd in the Echanted Castle, on the Sega Genesis in 1989. The sequel was poorly received, while a certain blue hedgehog rose in prominence to become Sega’s new poster boy. The Alex Kidd series has been kept dormant ever since, though the character has appeared in several Sega team games, such as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is available now for pre-order on PC (Steam). It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One in 2021. It’s rated E for Everyone with Fantasy Violence.
