Croatian indie developer Pine Studio (Faraway) has announced a new puzzle-adventure game, The Academy: The First Riddle. It’s launching June 19 on Steam PC (Win, Mac), as well as mobile devices (iOS and Android).

The adventure game is modeled after the Professor Layton puzzle-adventure series and set in a magical school. As freshman student Sam, players will tackle over 200 puzzles and riddles as the dive into the school’s mysterious past. Sam will also be able to engage in fun side activities and make new friends (and enemies).

“We’re huge fans of the Professor Layton series and its colorful puzzles,” said Boris Barbir, project manager and game designer, Pine Studio. “We wanted to make a game that would allow players on all platforms to experience that thrill of getting a puzzle just right. We are big fans of Harry Potter, so the school is greatly inspired by Hogwarts, but it’s also inspired by the architecture of our city, Zagreb. Early on in development, it became clear that what we actually set off to achieve was to capture the essence of being a kid – the feeling that adventure lies around every corner.”

The Academy: The First Riddle is launching first on PC (Steam) and mobile on June 19. It’s coming later this summer to PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
