North Star Digital Studios is bringing digital board game Evolution: The Video Game to Nintendo Switch in “Early 2020.”

Evolution is a card game for up to six players. Each player creates new species using trait cards. These cards are used to grow their species’ population and body size, and acquire new traits to consume as much food as possible, whether from plants or from each other.

“We love the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities for digital board games like Evolution,” said Scott Rencher, president and co-founder, North Star Digital Studios. “The speed of controller-based play is a great game experience, and the pass-and-play nature of the console offers that warm sense of community we love fostering with the board game.”

The digital version launched earlier this year on PC (Steam) and mobile devices, and features new artwork, animations, and a full campaign story mode with enemy bosses. The digital card game supports online, cross-platform multiplayer and skill-based matchmaking competitions.

In preparation for the Switch launch, new features are being added, such as monthly multiplayer tournaments, pass and play local multiplayer, and new single player challenges and synchronous multiplayer.

Evolution: The Video Game is currently available on PC and mobile. To celebrate the Switch announcement, it’s currently 40% off until Sept. 20.
