French studio Motion Twin has partnered with fellow indie developer Playdigious (Cultist Simulator) to port last year’s excellent “RogueVania” Dead Cells to mobile devices. The iOS version will be available this Summer for iPhone and iPad. Android users will have to wait a bit longer.

Dead Cells is a 2D action-platformer that combines the permadeath challenge of a roguelike with the equipment unlocking and multiple paths of a metroidvania. That’s a lot of genre nonsense if you aren’t invested in 2D action games. Suffice to say the Dead Cells is a really fantastic game (read our review).

The mobile version will feature a redesigned interface for mobile. You’ll be able to customize button placement and size, or use an MFi external controller. An optional auto-hit game mode will also be available.

Dead Cells was originally available via Steam Early Access before launching on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch last fall. Recently Motion Twin released a free DLC pack, Rise of the Giant. Rise of the Giant added two new areas and bosses, as well as new enemies, skills and weapons. Currently the free DLC is only available on PC.

Dead Cells will arrive on iOS this Summer. Android is coming “at a later date.” You can sign up for the newsletter on the official website.
