Nintendo has announced that preregistration for Miitomo is now open. If you sign up now, you can get some My Nintendo points.

In case you don’t know or don’t remember, Miitomo is Nintendo’s first ever mobile app. It’s not a game, but rather a social experience. Basically you create a Mii, answer some questions and then send your Mii out into the ether to chat with the Miis of your friends. When it comes back, you’ll see the conversations it had. It’s kind of like Cyrano de Bergerac for the modern age. Nintendo describes Miitomo as a “a free-to-start social experience that lets you spark conversations with your friends in a whole new way.”

If you preregister, you’ll get a notification the second the app is ready, so you can start talking to your friends (sort of) immediately. Another benefit of preregistering is that you’ll receive some My Nintendo Platinum Points. My Nintendo is the new rewards program that replaces Club Nintendo. My Nintendo is much broader in scale and loops in digital content along with physical game purchases. Here’s what the suits have to say:

“Miitomo makes it easy for people to express themselves and interact with their friends in new and fun ways,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “Preregistering now is the best way to be among the first to get in on the fun when Miitomo launches next month.”

Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t say how many Platinum Points you’ll get for preregistering.
