Every year the latest version of the Madden franchise of football games is used to predict which team will win the Super Bowl. This year, Madden NFL 16 says it will be the Carolina Panthers.

You might think predicting the winner would be enough, but the predictions go a lot further. The game simulation says the Panthers will lead 17-0 in the first half. Then Denver will score 20 points in the third quarter, putting them in the lead for the fourth quarter. Madden says the game will come down to the final play, which will be a run by the Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton.

Madden goes on to say that Newton will be the MVP.

You might think this whole thing is all fluff with no relation to what actually happens in the Super Bowl, but you’d be wrong. The Madden games have correctly predicted the winners of the Super Bowl 9 out of the 12 years the simulation has been going on. As if that isn’t enough, the game correctly predicted the exact score of the real Super Bowl last year.

Obviously we’ll have to wait for the real game to confirm the results. But if you’re fan of the Panthers, things are looking good for you…in a virtual way, of course.
