Sometimes your kids know exactly what they want to be for Halloween, and sometimes they don’t. If you’re a gamer-parent looking for ideas, here’s a few ideas for Halloween costumes from this year’s hottest titles. (Keezy did a post last year that has more great ideas. Check that out here.)
1. Minecraft: Story Mode
Minecraft has always been a great inspiration for costumes and cosplay—maybe because it’s made of boxes, and the real world is full of cardboard boxes you can stick together and paint. This year, just as Minecraft: Story Mode has burst upon the scene, Reuben the pig seems like a terrific choice for candy-seeking kids. If you’re looking to go as a parent-child pair, how about suiting up as Jesse and putting your kid in the Reuben costume—or vice versa?
2. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers
Superheroes are always a good choice, and LEGO Marvel Avengers offers some swell superhero models for costumes. The Hulk is doable with some green paint and a grimace. And Thor seems like a good choice, too, with his long yellow hair and oversized hammer.
3. Pokémon
Pokémon characters are always popular, but this may be the year (again) of Pikachu. Pikachu is coming to Build-a-Bear, for one thing, and as Simone says: “Pokémon seems to be experiencing a second (third? fourth?) renaissance with the buzz over the upcoming Pokémon GO, not to mention Pokémon Shuffle coming to mobile phones and the Pokémon/Tekken mash-up (Pokken Tournament) coming out for the Wii U.”
4. Splatoon
Splatoon is one of the biggest new games of the year, and Squid Girl could make a great but simple costume choice for Halloween. Pick up the biggest super-soaker you can find, add a t-shirt and shorts, and if you’re feeling creative, make the hat. Or you can buy the hat here:
5. Disney Infinity Star Wars
Disney Infinity 3.0 is one of the hottest games for kids, and a new playset, Rise Against the Empire, was released recently. Add the fact that the new film, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is about to hit the theaters, and you’ll have to agree that everything Star Wars is popular right now. Luke, Leia, Han, Darth Vader and all the Star Wars characters are bound to be Halloween 2015 favorites.
6. LittleBigPlanet Back to the Future
In honor of Back to the Future Day, LittleBigPlanet released a new level pack. And boy, is it cute! In case you missed the hubbub, Back to the Future Day was October 21, 2015, the day in “Back to the Future Part II” when Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrive from 1985. The Back to the Future Level Kit includes a hoverboard power-up, as well as costumes from the film. It’s always fun to dress up in old-West costumes, and the Back to the Future influence can make it even more fun.
