As part of Steam Next Fest, KingsIsle Entertainment have released a new demo for upcoming Wizard 101 spinoff, Ravenwood Academy.
Ravenwood Academy is a single-player spinoff of long-running, kid-friendly MMO, Wizard 101. Set before the events of Wizard 101, players join the titular academy as new students in spellcraft. At Ravenwood, they’ll make new friends while investigating mysterious incidents around campus. By investigating scenes and speaking to witnesses, players can fill in their trusty notebook to find answers.
Definitely more of an adventure puzzle-investigation game than the card-battling RPG of the MMO.
As a prequel, players can also meet familiar characters in the Wizard 101 world, such as Dalia Falmea and Halston Balestrom, and learn more fun background lore and details about the world.
The free demo includes two investigations with about 30-45 minutes of gameplay.
Wizard 101 has been kicking around since 2008 (when MMOs were all the rage!), having carved out a niche as a more kid-friendly MMO. The MMO continues to receive regular content updates and patches over the years. The base game is free-to-play, with optional subscriptions and microtransactions to unlock additional content.
Ravenwood Academy: A Wizard101 Story was first announced back in 2024. A release date has yet to be announced. Steam Next Fest runs through October 26.
