Indie developer Alex Massé and Team have released Paralives via Steam Early Access. It’s available on PC and Mac with a 10% launch discount through June 1 ($35.99).

Paralives is a The Sims-like sandbox life sim, set in an open world neighborhood filled with shops, parks, workplaces, and, of course, people.

The life sim features grid-les construction, including curved walls and split-level floors. Players can easily resize, recolor, and customize each piece of furniture and item in their home. And the character creator includes complete control over body types, outfits, and personalities.

Paralives also supports user generated content through the Steam Workshop, including houses, Parafolks, and mods.

But perhaps its most exciting feature: all future updates and content added throughout Early Access and beyond will be free: “We have pledged to never release paid DLCs: there will only ever be free updates!”

According to the recently released roadmap, the next updates through September will be smaller, and mostly include bug fixes and optimization improvements. The first major update will arrive towards the end of this year.

“Our community is the lifeblood that will sustain our Early Access evolution into a game everyone can enjoy. On our end, we’ll be transparent about what we’re working on and the issues we’re tackling at any given time. We’ll also continue to give the community an evolving roadmap of our progress so everyone can track how things are going.”

Future content will add pets, weather and seasons, pools and swimming, social events, story progression, gardening, fishing, and tools to create your own entire town.

According to the official Steam page, the developers plan on a lengthy Early Access period of at least two years. The price will gradually increase as more content is added, until full release.

The game is entirely funded through Patreon supporters.

Paralives is available now on Steam, and rated T for Teen.
