During the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced that creature collecting RPG, Monster Hunter Stories, and its sequel, will release on Xbox One and X/S on November 14.
Monster Hunter Stories originally released in 2016 on the Nintendo 3DS as a Pokémon-like spinoff, with players befriending monsters (or monsties) rather than defeating them. Well, then they defeat a whole bunch of other monsters, with the power of friendship! And sharp claws.
The sequel, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, arrived on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2021, and the modern remastered version of the original game released last year on PC, PlayStation, and Switch (which is the one coming to Xbox).
As a fan of both franchises, I enjoyed the Monster Hunter Stories games quite a bit, with a large variety of monsters and locations, hard-hitting story, and satisfying turn-based combat.
Though the sequel takes an annoyingly long time to get going.
The first two games will be available individually, or together as part of a Monster Hunter Stories Collection bundle ($59.99). Pre-orders can take advantage of a significant 50% discount, dropping the Collection bundle to $35.99. A few dollars more grants you the Deluxe Collection, which includes some cosmetic outfits and layered armor.
Both RPGs are also currently on sale on PlayStation, Switch, and Steam, including the two game Collection, through September 29.
It’s a good move by Capcom to get the first two games out there, as the third game is on its way. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will release on March 13, 2026 for Steam PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. Third time’s the charm for multi-platform release!
The Monster Hunter Stories series is rated E10+.
