During a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, Capcom announced Monster Hunter Stories 3. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection will release in 2026 on Steam PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.

The spin-off series takes the familiar monsters of the Monster Hunter series, and transforms it into a creature collecting RPG with turn-based combat.

Twisted Reflection features an all new story centered on two neighboring kingdoms, Azuria and Vermeil. Early in the story, the kingdoms discover a rare egg featuring a pair of Rathalos, thought to be extinct. However, the twin Rathalos portent a cataclysmic war, and threatens to plunge the world into ruin.

As the heir to Azuria, players become the sole Rathalos Rider of the kingdom. They’re eventually joined by Eleanor, princess of Vermeil, who hopes to discover the schemes of her sister, the Queen. The pair will journey across the world to protect monsters and investigate the growing crystal encroachment.

Judging from the trailer, Twisted Reflection features a more mature story, with a more talkative protagonist, and perhaps a larger open world. As a fan of the Monster Hunter series (and creature collecting RPGs), I’ve enjoyed the series in the past, though Monster Hunter Stories 2 took forever to get going.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is due in 2026. It has not yet been rated, but previous games in the series were rated E10+.
