Online MOBA Pokémon Unite turns three this summer. The Pokémon Company is celebrating with several limited-time events, and the release of Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh.
Annoyingly, each of the Pokémon Unite anniversary events ends at a different time (see below).
The phoenix-like Ho-Oh arrives as the 65th (!) Pokémon in Unite. A Ranged Defender, Ho-Oh excels at staying alive thanks to its Regenerator ability. It can also spend Aoes energy to revive fallen allies.
Players can obtain Ho-Oh by playing the Ho-Oh minigame event. Each day, trainers can roll a dice on a board game to collect Divine Forest Coins. By collecting 100 coins, players can turn them in for Ho-Oh’s Unite license.
The Ho-Oh minigame ends August 11. Note that Dark Forest Coins are only used for this event, and will expire when the event ends.
Trainers can also earn a free Charizard Unite license, simply by logging in during the event. Players who already have Charizard can choose between a Charizard-themed hat, or 100 Aeos Coins. Trainers have until September 2 to nab the free login reward.
From now until September 4, trainers can enjoy the return of Panic Parade, the tower-defense game mode.
And as always, a new seasonal Battle Pass is available, themed around Ho-Oh and black flames. The signature holowear is the Dark Lord Style for Charizard.
Pokémon Unite appears to be waning in popularity — the main website hasn’t been updated in a year! Despite this, it’s still a fun, well-built, kid-friendly MOBA, available on the Switch and mobile platforms. It’s rated E10+.
