Last year’s surprising retro remake release, Live A Live, is now available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

Live A Live is an innovative RPG that originally released on the Super Famicom in 1994. Not until last year did it finally release to Western audiences, awith a full HD-2D remake on Nintendo Switch.

Like its spiritual successor series Octopath Traveler, Live A Live features eight different stories, starring eight different protagonists. Each of the stories takes place in a different period of human history, including Imperial China, the Wild West, and the far-future.

Seven of the stories are presented episodically and can be completed in any order. After finishing them all, a final eighth story unlocks, tying the narratives together.

In addition to the snazzy HD-2D pixel graphics, the remake also features a rearranged soundtrack by original composter Yoko Shimomura, best known for the Kingdom Hearts series.

A free demo is available to download on the Steam and PlayStation stores. The demo includes the opening sections of three of the stories: Wild West, Edo Japan, and Distant Future. Any progress made in the demo will carry over to the full version.

Live A Live is available now on Steam, PlayStation, and Switch. Steam users can take advantage of the launch discount of 20% through May 10. It’s rated T for Teen.
