Square Enix has released the strategy role-playing game The DioField Chronicle on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S ($59.99).
Unlike most SRPGs, The DioField Chronicle uses a unique “Real-Time Tactical Battle” system. The RTS genre isn’t exactly new, but most Japanese SRPGs are entirely turn-based. Player and enemy troops clash in real-time battles in this war-torn Kingdom of Alletain. Players are free to pause the action at any time to issue orders and set up their troops, not unlike a “real-time with pause” RPG.
Battlefields resemble model dioramas — hence the name DioField!
The orchestral score is composed by Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell, best known for Game of Thrones.
A free demo is available on all platforms. Any progress made in the demo will carry over if you choose to purchase the game on the same platform.
The DioField Chronicle is available now on Switch, Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. It’s also available in a Deluxe Edition, which includes the digital artbook and soundtrack, as well as an in-game weapon and accessory ($74.99). It’s rated T for Teen with blood, violence, and suggestive themes.
