The latest announcement from The Pokémon Company officially revealed more Pokémon who are receiving the Gigantamax treatment in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
Gigantamax is a special form of Dynamax, which is an all new gameplay feature that’s coming in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Dynamax is the ability to temporarily super-charge your Pokémon, increasing its size and stats, similar to Mega Evolution. Gigantamax goes one step further, transforming the Pokémon’s appearance and granting it a powerful new G-Max Move. However, only specific and rare specimens are capable of Gigantamax.
The newly revealed Gigantamax Pokémon are Pikachu, Eevee, Meowth, Butterfree, and Charizard. Not surprisingly these are some of the most popular and well-known Pokémon from the first generation. All of them gain exclusive new G-Max Moves when transformed. Gigantamax Butterfree, for example, can unleash G-Max Befuddle, which deals damage and causes the opponent to be poisoned, paralyzed, or asleep.
Many of the newly announced Gigantamax Pokémon have limited availability through special restrictions. Pikachu and Eevee require save data from Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! respectively. You’ll be given the Pokémon upon reaching the Wild Area Station in game, which players should reach within the first few hours of gameplay. Pikachu’s G-Max move Volt Crash deals damage and paralyzes all opponents, while Eevee’s G-Max Cuddle deals damage and causes an opponent of the opposite gender to become infatuated.
Gigantamax Meowth, who looks like an inflatable tube man, will be distributed via the Mystery Gift in-game menu as a reward for anyone who purchases Pokémon Sword and Shield between November 15 and January 15, 2020. Meowth’s G-Manx Move is gold Rush, which scatters gold coins around the battlefield, dealing damage but also providing a sizable cash bonus after the fight.
Pokémon Sword and Shield will arrive on November 15 elusively on Nintendo Switch. It’s rated E for Everyone.
