In a surprise announcement today, Square Enix released one of the greatest RPGs of all time, Chrono Trigger, on PC (Steam) for $14.99.

The PC version is basically a tweaked port of the mobile version, which is pretty solid. It includes the new Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum dungeons that were added for the Nintendo DS and mobile versions. The amazing soundtrack has been re-recorded while visuals have been optimized for modern PCs. Controls support both mouse/keyboard and a controller. The PC version also adds an always welcome Autosave feature on top of the original Save Points.

The existing mobile version of Chrono Trigger is also getting a big update to add all these features, as well as launching on the Amazon appstore. The mobile version includes cloud saves and support for AppleTV.

If you purchase Chrono Trigger on Steam before April 2, you receive the Limited Edition. The Limited Edition includes a special five-piece medley musical track, composer Yasunori Mitsuda’s digital liner notes, and six wallpapers.

Chrono Trigger originally launched in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, featuring a Japanese RPG and anime dream team of Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Ball. It has since become one of the most well-loved and highest rated role-playing games of all time, featuring an epic time-hopping story and a memorable cast of diverse characters.

Chrono Trigger is rated E for Everyone for Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood, Suggestive Themes, Mild Language, Comic Mischief, and Alcohol.
