You need to stop what you’re doing and take two minutes to watch this amazingly poignant trailer for upcoming indie game, Drawquarium. The trailer, which reveals the game’s release date at November 13, has nearly 900k views on IGN’s YouTube channel.
The trailer is a masterclass of design. It’s emotionally stirring, builds a personal, relatable story, and ends with a very timely message: Art Is Human. All that for a cozy game about managing your own cute aquarium!
Drawquarium is far from the first game to simulate the experience of caring for an aquarium. However, in Drawquarium, you quite literally create the fish yourself. Using a detailed in-game editor, players are free to draw and design their own custom fish and aquatic wildlife, including different colors, patterns, and sizes.
Then, add your custom-drawn 2D fish (or whatever creature you design) to the tank, feed them, and watch them flourish. By properly taking care of the little art projects, you can unlock additional decorations for the tank. I particularly love that you can turn the aquarium into custom animated wallpaper that sits as your desktop background.
On the Steam store page, game designer Kaleb writes, “One of the reasons I started developing this game was that I wanted to bring my children’s drawings to life.”
A free demo is available on Steam. The full game will launch on November 13.
