Indie Aussie producers-turned-developers Wemat Studios released their debut game, Box Knight, on Steam PC. Box Knight is available now with a 15% launch discount.
In Box Knight, a large corporate office has been transformed, turning most of the workers into nasty monsters, while the others must fight to survive.
The colorful comic art style is much more humorous than horrifying. Though the developers mention the following descriptors: cartoon violence, fantasy violence, partial cartoon nudity, use of alcohol, and crude humor.
Players embark on missions to reach the highest floor in horde-based, side-scrolling, beat-em-up gameplay, using a variety of weapons, upgrades, and abilities. Each run features a randomized layout with different enemies and upgrades.
It’s also a roguelike: between runs (or after death), players can upgrade their cardboard warriors with permanent upgrades and boosts to improve their chances on future runs.
The entire game also supports two player local couch co-op. Players can customize their heroic office employee by unlocking different pieces of armor, uniforms, weapons, and more.
Wemat Studios is short for We Made a Thing Studios, which is cute and clever. The three-person indie team has been working on their first game since 2020 during the pandemic.
