Pixel Helix, a marketing agency specializing in retro games, is hosting the first-ever Pixel Arcadia – The Future of Retro showcase on August 24, via Twitch and YouTube, as well as Steam and GOG.
Hosted by developers and content creators, Hasraf ‘haZ’ Dulull and Dan ‘MrPointyHead’ Maher, the digital showcase will feature 90 minutes dedicated to retro gaming.
Now when I think ‘retro gaming’ I think literally ‘old games’ from the 80s and 90s (are 2000s old yet?). However, there are plenty of new retro games as well, basically any game that plays, looks, and feels like it released during the 8-bit or 16-bit gaming eras, or through the early rise of 3D gaming.
To that end, Pixel Arcadia will include world premieres and announcements, including “lost-lost icons reborn” to “reimagined entries in classic arcade series.” Over 30 publishers and developers are signed on to participate, including Atari, Microprose, and Acclaim, as well as beloved retro gaming companies such as Dotemu, Limited Run, and iam8bit.
At least one newly announced game will also launch during the event itself.
As a global event based in the UK, Pixel Arcadia will broadcast on August 24 at 11:00am Pacific/2pm Eastern. A pre-show will air half an hour earlier, and include additional reveals and first-looks. A post-show will follow, hosted by Digital Foundry Retro, with additional insights over the announcements.
Pixel Arcadia is sponsored by GOG and Clear River Games.
