Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced that global sales of Pokémon Pokopia have surpassed five million units, across physical and digital versions, since launch earlier this year on March 5.
Five million is an impressive number — though not for the Pokémon series. For comparison, the previous Pokémon release, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, sold over five million within a single week of release in October 2025 (Z-A also launched on Switch and Switch 2).
The last mainline RPG release, Scarlet and Violet, sold over 10 million copies within a matter of days back in 2022. We expect similar numbers for the long-awaited next main installments, Pokémon Winds and Waves.
Still, Pokopia has been a relatively big success for a new spinoff that completely shifts genres. It’s a life sim that takes many of its gameplay from Animal Crossing and Minecraft.
Players play as a Ditto, the amorphous transforming Pokémon, who fancies the shape of a human trainer. The world Ditto awakens to is desolate and bereft of most Pokémon. By building proper habitats and buildings, Pokémon gradually return to the world.
Pokémon have different skills and abilities that help Ditto gather resources, refine resources, construct buildings, water crops, and more. Playing at their own pace, players restore each of the biomes while meeting new Pokémon, making the world a safe and beautiful haven — sans battling.
Pokopia recently released Part 1 of the three-part Expansion Pass DLC. Part 1: Bubbly Basin adds an underwater town biome, with new Pokémon, furniture, food, and more. A free update adds a new Dive move that Ditto can use to explore and play underwater.
Part 2 of the Expansion Pass is expected to release later this year, with Part 3 arriving in 2027.
Pokémon Pokopia is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, and rated E for Everyone.
