During the semi-annual State of Play digital showcase, Sony and Santa Monica Studios announced God of War: Laufey, a new main entry in the God of War series starring Kratos’ warrior-wife.
Just ahead of Summer Game Fest 2026, PlayStation held its semi-annual State of Play, revealing new games, and providing new updates on upcoming games later this year and beyond, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Until Dawn 2.
The biggest news surrounds a new God of War game by Santa Monica Studios. God of War: Laufey is the first game in the series to not star Kratos, but instead his goddess wife, Laufey (played by Deborah Ann Woll).
The story picks up after her funeral during the opening events of Game of the Year-winner God of War (2018). Laufey, also known as Faye, arrives in the mythological afterlife known as Everywhen, where she battles powerful gods to protect Kratos and Atreus.
Oh, and beloved actor Jack Quaid plays a friendly talking cube named Phranque! Together with the magic sword Rue (played by Perlina Lau, or rather, the ribbons) and her own soul-related abilities, Faye fights her way to escape the afterlife prison.
A release date for God of War: Laufey has not yet been announced.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a single-player action game from Insomniac Games, developers of Marvel’s Spider-Man. However, Wolverine is a bloody, gory action game inspired by Logan’s more R-rated adventures. State of Play revealed Jean Grey as a non-playable ally, as the X-Men rescue captured young mutants from the cybernetic Reavers.
Marvel’s Wolverine also finally has a release date: September 15.
Rayman Legends Retold is a 3D remake of the 2013 platformer (and the fifth in the series). Aside from improved visuals and 60fps, the remake features fully voiced characters, improved gameplay, and new levels, as well as four player local co-op.
Legends Retold is launching October 1.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a full remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider (and the second remake, following 2007’s Tomb Raider Anniversary). Crystal Dynamics wanted to return to the series roots, and it doesn’t get much rootier than the original tomb Raider!
Legacy of Atlantis will release February 12, 2027.
Remember the trailer of that survival game set immediately after Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar? Well, this isn’t that — but it is a survival horror game with dinosaurs! The Lost Wild stars Saskia in an immersive, cinematic story as the must survive while lost on an abandonded island crawling with dangerous dinosaurs. From the developers of Alien: Isolation.
The Lost Wild will release in 2027.
Control Resonant is the long-awaited sequel to Remedy’s well-received 2019 narrative action-adventure, Control. However, Resonant shifts gears from a third-person shooter into an action-RPG as New York City has been warped by the supernatural Resonant.
The sequel stars Dylan, brother to Jesse, and former antagonist. Now he works with the Federal Bureau of Control to battle the paranormal forces that threaten the city.
Control Resonant is launching on September 24.
Until Dawn 2 is the standalone sequel to the 2015 narrative horror adventure. The sequel features a new cast of young hotties and influencer ghost hunters on an abandoned island, where they face real horrors for the first time.
As with the original game, player choice dictates which characters live or die throughout the story. The full cast is yet to be revealed (though we’re pretty sure we spotted Baldur’s Gate 3’s Neil Newborn!) but Peter Stormare has been confirmed as his returning character, Dr. Hill.
Fans will have to wait a bit longer, as Until Dawn 2 isn’t out until 2027.
