After launching in Japan last month, Nintendo is bringing its My Mario series of toys, games, and apparel to the United States. The My Mario Collection is officially launching on Feb 19 at the Nintendo stores in New York and San Francisco, and expanding to retail stores around the country throughout the year.
My Mario is aimed at babies and preschoolers and feature Nintendo characters such as Mario, Princess Peach and Yoshi. Products are developed in partnership with prominent toy companies including Mattel, Fisher-Price, and TOMY.
The initial wave of My Mario products includes:
- Two wooden block sets, one 3-piece set and one 30-piece set featuring Mario and friends (wooden block characters also double as amiibo figures!)
- An interactive Hello, Mario board book published by Penguin Random House
- A free Hello, Mario! app that lets children and parents interact with Mario’s face, available on iOS and Android mobile devices, as well as Nintendo Switch systems
- A stop-motion animation series, It’s Me, Mario!, available on the Play Nintendo YouTube channel, and My Mario website
- Apparel designed for infants and toddlers featuring Mario and friends
- Fisher-Price Little People figures and toy sets
- Bath toys by Tomy Toomies
- Soft rattles and plushies for infants
With a generation of parents (and even grandparents) who grew up with Nintendo and Mario, it makes perfect sense to share the kid-friendly characters and world with our youngsters.
I’m pleased to see the majority of products aren’t digital, but actual, tactile toys that promote physical and interactive play. Plus, the colorful world of Mario translates perfectly to toys, blocks, and books.
Launch timing for individual My Mario products may vary.
