Indie developer Uncommon Games is updating the demo for upcoming cozy life sim Animalkind, adding online co-op. The major update to the free demo arrives on February 23, on Steam.

Animalkind is an open world farm and life sim starring cute animal player characters, such as cats, dogs, and raccoons. It’s set on an empty island in a post-human world.

Constructing an island paradise might be tricky for little paws, but that’s where the mech suits come in.

Each player has their own mech, giving them more powerful arms and legs (while still giving full view of their cuteness, thanks to the bubble-top). Mechs can fly, fish, build, and carry friends who are out of their suits. Players can also customize their mechs with different colors and stickers, and upgrade them with new features.

Judging from the trailer, mech suits require battery power, so players can’t stay and use their suits all the time.

animalkind co-opAnimalkind has the usual cozy sim gameplay of building homes to attract residents, as well as farming, crafting, and decorating. The surrounding wilderness features multiple biomes, new characters, and rare resources.

I’m sure there’s a mystery about the disappearance of mankind waiting to be discovered as well. Uncommon Games recently announced the addition of writer and narrative designer Kelsey Beachum (Outer Wilds, Avowed), whose work can be seen in the new demo update.

The demo for Animalkind is free to download on Steam, with online co-op arriving February 23. The full game will launch later this year on PC.
