The latest trailer for side-scrolling beat ’em up Marvel Cosmic Invasion confirmed two more heroes to the roster, and most importantly, the release date. Marvel Cosmic Invasion will release on December 1 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4/5, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a retro-inspired, side-scrolling beat ’em up inspired by classic co-op arcade games. Up to four players can choose from a large roster of superheroes (and anti-heroes) with drop-in/drop-out local and online co-op.
The trailer reveals Phoenix, aka Jean Grey of the X-Men, as well as Iron Man, aka Tony Stark. Phoenix unleashes her powerful telekinetic powers, while Iron Man comes equipped with repulsor blasts and the chargeable Iron Cannon.
Iron Man and Phoenix bring the confirmed roster up to 15. Here’s the full lineup of playable heroes in Marvel Cosmic Invasion:
- Beta Ray Bill
- Black Panther
- Captain America
- Cosmic Ghost Rider
- Iron Man
- Nova
- Phoenix
- Phyla-Vell
- Rocket Raccoon
- She-Hulk
- Spider-Man
- Storm
- Silver Surfer
- Venom
- Wolverine
Bold choice to use Pyla-Vell over Captain Marvel, and Beta Ray Bill over Thor! Maybe they’ll be unlockable skins?
The heroes will be up against the cosmic super villain Annihilus (who has yet to make an appearance in the MCU) and his deadly Annihilation Wave that threatens the galaxy.
In a nod to Marvel vs Capcom, players each select two heroes, and swap between them at any time to unleash combo attacks.
Publisher Dotemu has specialized in retro-inspired games, including Streets of Rage 4, and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. Developer Tribute Games previously wowed us with another excellent licensed side-scrolling beat ’em up just a few years ago, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is rated E10+.
