Square Enix has released Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles on PC (Steam), PlayStation, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox ($49.99).

If you’ve never played the original 1998 RPG, you’ve probably heard of it. The tactical spinoff is widely considered one of the best RPGs ever made (tactical or otherwise), thanks to its excellent writing and story-telling, intricate class systems, and compelling tile-based battlefields. Although other strategy-RPGs like Fire Emblem predate it, Final Fantasy Tactics helped popularize the subgenre.

The adventure is set in the fantasy world of Ivalice, which became so popular it was used for Final Fantasy 12, as well as Final Fantasy Tactics sequels.

While progressing through the war-torn medieval kingdom, players can explore over 20 jobs, from black mage to dragoon, combining 300 different abilities to create custom builds and unique strategies.

The Ivalice Chronicles includes the original classic 90s RPG with the 2007 War of the Lions improved translations, alongside an Enhanced version. The Enhanced version includes updated visuals, overhauled UI, new dialogue and voice acting, and various modern gaming features such as autosave, and fast-forward.

The Enhanced version also features an optional, easier difficulty for new players.

A Deluxe Edition ($59.99) includes several in-game items, and alternate equipment colors for Ramza. A Physical Edition is also available on Switch and PlayStation.

Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles is rated T for Teen with Fantasy  Violence, Blood, Mild Suggestive Themes, Mild Language, and Drug References.
