UK-based mental health organization, Safe In Our World has announced new Mental Health Workshops designed to help Community Managers, and other organizers in the gaming space.

These Mental Health Workshops are supported by gaming publisher Humble, and delivered by Mind Fitness.

During the 3-hour workshop, attendees will learn more about mental health, identifying and managing stress, establishing healthy boundaries, and utilizing mental health resources. The course also covers advice and policies from the World Health Organization, developing emotional intelligence, and what to do when faced with a mental health emergency.

“The role of the Community Manager can seem limitless,” said Andy Barker, Mind Fitness. “Without clear frameworks and established expectations, the internal and external demands can be overwhelming. We must provide CMs with the tools to look after their own well-being, by giving them the knowledge and confidence to signpost players to resources, and switch off when they’re off the clock.”

Community Manager Em Aspinall previously attended a Mental Health First Aid Training workshop, and joined Safe In Our World last year:

It’s wild to think I started my mental health awareness journey doing this training with Mind Fitness and Safe In Our World back in 2021, when I was a Community Manager. It unlocked something in me, and now, fast-forward four years, I’m working at the mental health charity where it all began. I learned so much from Mind Fitness, including skills I’ve now put into practice time and time again, protecting the mental health of the communities I’ve been privileged to serve. But it also helped me look after myself online! I’d recommend it to any CM or anyone in a player-facing role. Or just anyone in games, really.

The workshops are scheduled for October 9, and November 6, on Zoom. Interested managers, team leaders, and other community organizers can register for the free workshops via Eventbrite.
