During Gamescom 2025, Seed Lab unveiled a new trailer for upcoming life sim, Starsand Island. The trailer reveals a montage of fun activities that go well beyond farming — like playing instruments for farm animals, stocking your aquarium, or riding an ostrich into town.
How about living on your own customizable houseboat — with a water slide!
Starsand Island will feature three different construction modes, as showcased in the trailer. Free-view building is pretty standard, build with a free camera, useful for outdoor construction. Players can also ‘paint’ buildings with different textures.
Character perspective is easier to furnish the indoor spaces of the player homestead. And local view gets even tighter, for more detailed decorating — like a fish tank.
Player dwellings include Tudor-style, bungalows, cottages, and sprawling manors. Plus, landscape options such as decking, fencing, and more. Gotta keep that HOA happy!
Custom builds can be saved with objects, styles, and more, and shared with others. NPCs will also reward players with Official Blueprints to build from.
Starsand Island is an anime life sim that looks like Studio Ghibli meets Stardew Valley.
“Creating a perfect, pastoral paradise takes more than growing vegetables and making friends with fellow islanders,” said Richardo Wang, Creative Director, Seed Lab. “It is about being able to create your dream house, where every room, every window and door, and every decoration is just as you imagined. Giving players that ability is a wonderful goal to set ourselves, as well as the broader customization of vehicles, pets, and their own character avatar we have in Starsand Island.”
Starsand Island is due out on Steam PC in early 2026.
