Gameloft has recently released the Explorer’s Collection, a discounted bundle that includes The Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego. The digital-only bundle is available now on Steam PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox consoles ($49.99).
The Oregon Trail needs no introduction. The classic roguelike historical travel game is familiar to an entire generation thanks to its prevalence as an educational game in classrooms throughout the 90s and 2000s.
The remake, billed as a “modern reimagining,” was released in 2022. Players still journey across 19th century United States through multiple quests and journeys, managing their people, food, supplies, and wagon, and dealing with the harshness of frontier life.
Carmen Sandiego is also a remake of a classic educational game, and launched earlier this year. The remake is based around the successful animated show on Netflix, which reimagines the international villain as globe-trotting hero battling the forces of VILE. Players travel to new cities around the world, solving clues to catch the thieves and perpetrators. The brand is aimed at teaching kids geography and culture.
Of the two games, The Oregon Trail has been more well-received, with a Very Positive rating on Steam, while Carmen Sandiego has only Mostly Positive.
The remakes are normally $29.99, with the bundle providing a 17% discount.
The Oregon Trail is rated E10+ with Mild Language, Mild Violence, Alcohol and Tobacco Reference, and Crude Humor. Carmen Sandiego is rated E for Everyone.
