TearyHand Studio (aka solo developer, yono) and publisher Kodansha Creators’ Lab have released emotional visual novel, and Roger, on Steam and Switch ($4.99).
The premise for and Roger sounds like a disturbing horror movie:
A young girl’s world changes forever when her otherwise typical morning takes a turn: a stranger awaits downstairs. Who is he? Where is Dad? These questions and dozens more swirl in her head. Should she stay? Should she run?
He seems harmless, and even comfortable on that couch that’s not his. But he keeps insisting she “take her medicine.” Experience the story from the girl’s perspective, where mundane events become momentous, and unravel the mystery behind the man’s sudden appearance.
See what I mean?
But the game is rated E for Everyone with Mild Fantasy Violence. I’m thinking it’s more about the protagonist’s emotional journey through memory loss, or a serious mental condition, than anything nefarious.
“So many players provided positive feedback for and Roger’s demo during Steam Next Fest. I am happy they get to finish the story,” says yona. “Kodansha has given me the opportunity to use video games as a medium to tell stories near and dear to my heart, and I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to share more of my work with the world.”
And Roger is available now on PC (Steam) and Switch. The Steam version is 20% off through August 6.
