Summer Game Fest 2025 was a mostly whelming affair by mid-size and larger publishers looking to chase the same dark fantasy, souls-like success of games such as Elden Ring. The long, two-hour event crammed dozens of trailers with little room for developers. Even the celebrity guest was Mads Mikkelsen promoting a character he played 20 years ago for a Hitman DLC. Ehh.
Despite my ho-humming over this year’s Summer Game Fest, there were some interesting new reveals, from a nonverbal LEGO co-op adventure to a puppet boxing game, and a new retro beat ’em up in the Scott Pilgrim universe.
Here are the new games we’re most excited about from Summer Game Fest 2025.
Note that games we’ve already seen before (such as Mouse: PI for Hire and Mixtape) aren’t eligible for this list of new reveals, but are definitely worth looking up!
Deadpool VR
VR has suffered some growing pains when it comes to gaming, but a new Deadpool VR game for Meta Quest 3 looks delightfully violent and silly, even if the initial Silksong trailer joke was a bit cringe. The VR adventure takes the Merc with a Mouth through a series of violent shenanigans and funny quips. I admit, I laughed out loud near the end of the trailer when Deadpool (voiced here by Neil Patrick Harris) complained that Spider-Man gets Insomniac, while he has to settle for this.
Felt That: Boxing
One of the most unique game reveals at the Summer Game Fest was Felt That: Boxing. Felt That blends comedic writing, Muppet-like puppetry and characters, and arcade-style, third-person boxing that resembles Punch Out. Ezra “Fuzz-E” Wright is an unadoptable orphan who must get in the ring to save his orphanage. Most of the trailer looks more like a movie or show than a game, with impressively life-like puppets.
Into the Unwell
Move over Cuphead, there’s a new kid in the town of 1930s animation art style, and it’s even more irreverent. From what I can tell from the trailer, Into the Unwell sends an alcoholic cat on a surreal spirit quest manifesting as an action roguelike. Players can unlock abilities, weapons, and even other characters, and join forces in three-person co-op.
Jurassic World Evolution 3
We didn’t expect the third entry in the dinosaur theme park sim to surprise us, but the reveal trailer for Jurassic World Evolution 3 showcased all the features fans have been wanting. Namely: baby dinosaurs! Breed and nurture young dinosaurs as they form actual nests and family units. Plus, impressive new terrain shaping tools that builds upon the expanded global setting of Jurassic World Evolution 2.
Killer Inn
From Square Enix comes a Whodunit that combines murder and social deduction. Killer Inn features 24 distrustful players in a single mansion following a murder. Players are divided into Lambs and Wolves. Lambs must investigate clues and hunt possible killers, while Wolves secretly do the murdering. Features over 20 playable characters with their own abilities and styles.
LEGO Party!
Mario Party but LEGO seems like a such an obvious fit it’s a wonder we’re only just now seeing it. LEGO Party! pits four players in a series of chaotic levels themed around familiar sets, such as pirates, space, and Ninjago, along with 60 different minigames. The real draw are the unlockable minifigure pieces, resulting in hundreds of millions of character combinations.
LEGO Voyagers
You would think a co-op LEGO platformer would star minifigs, but that’s not the case with LEGO Voyagers. Instead, two players embody cute little blocks in a nonverbal narrative that focuses on exploration, building, and solving physics challenges. From the developers of LEGO Builder’s Journey. Also includes the Friend’s Pass feature popularized by Hazelight Studios.
Out of Words
Published by Epic Games, Out of Words is a two-player co-op adventure with a striking style of puppetry and stop-motion animation. Young friends Kurt and Karla are thrown into a magical realm where they lose their voice (and mouths!) and must communicate via touch as they explore the world and overcome obstacles. Written by poet Martin Søndergaard.
Scott Pilgrim EX
From the developers of the excellent retro beat ’em up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, comes a new entry in the Scott Pilgrim universe. Scott and Ramona Flowers battle their way through the mean streets of Toronto in classic side-scrolling beat ’em up Scott Pilgrim EX. Series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley co-wrote the original story. And Anamanaguchi returns for the soundtrack after their beloved score from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.
Stranger Than Heaven
Yakuza fans take note — the game formerly known as Project Century officially got a new title during Summer Game Fest: Stranger Than Heaven. Therefore, we’re counting it as a new reveal! Stranger Than Heaven is an intriguing, story-driven action game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, best known for the Yakuza series. In contrast to the first reveal trailer, the story takes place over multiple decades, with a mysteriously cool protagonist.
