Square Enix has brought Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, previously exclusive to Nintendo Switch, to PC (Steam), and mobile platforms (iOS, Android).

The PC and mobile versions will feature all DLC included in the Digital Deluxe Edition:

  • The Mole Hole: a special dungeon that features previously scouted monsters, regardless of season or weather. It’s actually super annoying that this nice feature was relegated to DLC!
  • Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym: another special dungeon that features randomly generated maps with powerful monsters.
  • Treasure Trunks: a special treasure chest that can be opened once every hour.

Dragon Quest Monsters is a Pokémon-like spin-off of the JRPG series (though it’s fair to say Pokémon was inspired by monster-wrangling from earlier Dragon Quest games!).

The Dark Prince stars Psaro, a half-blood monster prince who cannot directly battle other monsters. But he can tame, synergize, and task them to fight for him. The world of Nadiria features over 500 monsters, from familiar series favorites to new creatures.

The game introduces seasonal weather changes that cycle while exploring, changing the environment, opening new routes, and changing the monster spawns.

In our review of the Switch version, we declared that “The Dark Prince relies too heavily on nostalgia, along with its crunchy, grindy, monster-fusing gameplay, keeping all but the most hardcore fans at arm’s length.”

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is available now on PC (Steam), Switch, and mobile platforms. It’s rated E10+.
