Square Enix has released the first new game in classic Mana RPG series in over a decade with Visions of Mana. Visions of Mana is available now on PC (Steam, Microsoft), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S ($59.99).

A Switch port is notably absent, despite remaining on the bottom of the main website.

Visions of Mana stars new protagonist Val and his childhood friend Hinna in an all-new adventure to heal the Tree of Mana. It’s designed by original series producer Masaru Oyamada (Ouka Studios).

Visions of Mana is the fifth game in the Mana series (known as Seiken Densetsu in Japan, and to uber gaming nerds), which began in 1991 as handheld spinoff Final Fantasy Adventure. The games feature separate stories and characters, but all take place in a world supported by a magical world tree ( a concept often seen in some Dragon Quest games).

Most older gamers recognize the series from 1993’s Secret of Mana. Secret of Mana was released as part of the Collection of Mana set on Nintendo Switch.

The series is notable for its real-time action-combat within a traditional JRPG fantasy style. Players can freely swap between three members of their party, dodging attacks and unleashing elemental powers.

“It is so exciting to bring players a new mainline entry in the Mana series after 15 years,” said Oyamada. “We hope fans are as excited to return to the world of Mana as we are. We put so much work into making this new entry feel like a return home for existing fans while welcoming new players into the series. As you feel the world of Mana teeming with the breath of the elemental spirits, we hope that you’ll bear witness to the story that awaits Val and his friends on their journey.”

Visions of Mana is rated T for Teen.
