Publisher 505 Games and developer Kojima Productions have announced that Death Stranding: Director’s Cut will release on iPhone, iPad, and Macs on January 30. It will be available through universal purchase, requiring only a single purchase to play it on any Apple device.

Death Stranding is the unique action game by Hideo Kojima that released in 2019. It stars Norman Reedus as a courier in an apocalyptic world of invisible monsters and gangs of bandits.

Reedus plays Sam, a courier tasked with braving the wilds and transporting goods across the last few remaining cities. His special powers and connections with the Beached Things soon find him entangled with the wider politics of the world and the future of humanity.

Death Stranding met with mixed to positive reception, with the unique “walking simulator” gameplay coupled with Kojima’s dense, cinematic storytelling. It was nominated for eight categories in The Game Awards 2019, and won three, including Best Game Direction.

The Director’s Cut, originally released in 2021, includes new content such as new locations, expanded story missions, and more capabilities for cargo and logistics.

A sequel has been confirmed, with Norman Reedus still attached, alongside returning actors Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Léa Seydoux. A teaser trailer was first revealed at The Game Awards 2022.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut will release January 30 on Apple devices. Pre-orders are 50% off on the App Store. It’s rated M for Mature.
