Square Enix and developer Luminous Productions have released Forspoken. The action-adventure-RPG is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store) and PlayStation 5 ($69.99). The twice-delayed game was originally announced under the working title, Project Athia, back in 2020.

Forspoken stars Frey Holland, a young woman whose life is turned upside down when she’s transported to the fantasy world of Athia. Thankfuly she bonds with a magical talking bracelet called Cuff, and uses her newfound magical abilities to save this world.

Forspoken features a who’s who of gaming voice talents, including Claudia Black, Johnathan Cake, and Pollyana Macintosh, while actress Ella Balinska plays Frey. It’s the debut game from Luminous Productions, whose team originally worked on Final Fantasy 15.

“We’re so excited to celebrate the launch of Forspoken, and to have players finally experience Frey’s story,” said Takeshi Aramaki, Head of Luminous Productions. “The development team and everyone involved have worked so hard to bring the vision of Forspoken to life and we cannot wait to see fans reaction. We hope that players relate to Frey as they dive into the mysterious land of Athia and go on this magical journey with her.”

A free demo is available on the PlayStation store. Post-launch DLC has been announced, with the name In Tanta We Trust, and will be released later this year. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes early access to this prequel DLC story.

Forspoken is rated M for Mature.
