Even before Telltale’s infamous demise, fans have been clamoring for a sequel to one of their best episodic adventure games, Tales from the Borderlands. Earlier this year, Gearbox and 2K  announced a new standalone sequel, New Tales from the Borderlands.

Now at Gamescom we have our first trailer and a release date. New Tales from the Borderlands will release on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 21.

The standalone sequel is set in the world of Promethea and stars a new cast of characters: scientist Anu, her streetsmart brother Octavio, and Fran of Fran’s Frogurt Stand.

The bad news: we don’t see any of the characters from the previous game in the trailer (though many of them showed up in Borderlands 3). The good news: it looks like another fun adventure spin-off of the wacky series.

The adventure game is primarily being developed by Gearbox Quebec, who have “partnered with key alumni of the original Telltale Games narrative team,” according to the press release. As with other narrative adventure games, choices shape how characters react in the story, and the outcomes that unfold.

New Tales from the Borderlands will release on October 21 in Standard and Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition includes the original Tales from the Borderlands, one of the best adventure game series of the modern era.

The Borderlands series is rated M for Mature.
