Square Enix announced a mobile spinoff RPG based on Octopath Traveler. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will launch on Android and iOS mobile devices later this year.

Players can register for the closed beta test for the Android version now. The Closed beta test will take place between March 22 and April 4, via Google Play.

Champions of the Continent takes place on the same world of Orsterra, several years before the events of Octopath Traveler. Over 64 characters will be available to build a team of eight party members. The command-style battle system is built for mobile devices, with swipe controls.

The spinoff utilizes the beloved 2D-HD art style, which combines classic 2D pixel art with 3D effects. Composer Yasunori Nishiki returns to compose the soundtrack for the spinoff.

The original Octopath Traveler released in 2018 on Switch as a retro-inspired, but all-new RPG using the 2D-HD style. The RPG stars eight different protagonists, each with their own storyline and special abilities. It’s now available on PC, Stadia, and Xbox One as well.

No firm release date has been announced. The closed beta begins March 22 on Android mobile devices. The main RPG is rated T for Teen. Curiously, the mobile spinoff has a content rating of 17+ on the Google Play store.
