Once again Pokémon GO is ringing in the New Year with a special event. Beginning December 31 at 10 pm local time, the Season of Heritage story continues, with event bonuses, costumed Pokémon, and special research tasks.

During the New Years 2022 event, trainers can enjoy double Stardust and Candy from hatching Pokémon, as half the distance needed to hatch eggs. You can also enjoy digital fireworks displays through January 2, 2022.

Costumed Pokémon include Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Pikachu wearing festive party hats. Slowpoke is still wearing the 2020 glasses, with Slowbro sporting 2021. The new Slowking is finally caught up with the new 2022 party glasses. It’s a funny gag, but we’re running out of Slowbro evolutions!

For the first time in Pokémon GO, you’ll be able to encounter a Shiny Hoothoot with a party hat. After the event ends, Shiny Hoothoot will still be attainable, sans hat.

Festive Hoothoot and the 2020 Slowpoke, can be found by completing the field research tasks and by hatching 7km eggs.

New avatar items include 2022 glasses, headband, jackets, and pants.

The Season of Heritage storyline continues through February, but the New Years 2022 event ends January 4, 2022, at 8 pm local time. Pokémon GO is free to download on mobile devices.
