Koei Tecmo and Gust Studios have released Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Steam PC.

The JRPG sequel takes place three years after the events of the last game, 2019’s Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout. Ryza sets out a new quest to delve into ancient ruins and lost legends. She’s joined by new and old friends from the series, including her new furry companion, Fi.

Ryza 2 expands on the titular heroine’s exploration. Now she can swim underwater, climb walls using plants, and swing on magical ropes. Real-time battles have been expanded to include four characters, three main party members and a sub-member that can link skills and items together to defeat enemies.

The sequel is also designed with new players in mind. The series staple item synthesis has evolved to be both simple to learn, and satisfyingly advanced for experienced alchemists.

The Summer Fashion Costume Set DLC is included for free if you purchase Atelier Ryza 2 within the first two weeks of launch. If you still have save data from the first Atelier Ryza, you’ll unlock the Classic Costume set as a bonus.

The Atelier series has been around since the 90s, and includes over 20 games. It’s a more light-hearted JRPG series that emphasizes items and alchemy.

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is available now. It’s rated T for Teen.
