Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is out now on Nintendo Switch. The action game combines the fast-paced warfare of the Dynasty Warriors series with the world of The Legend of Zelda.

Specifically, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place 100 years before the events of 2017’s Breath of the Wild. During the Great Calamity, Ganon’s forces wrecked havoc on the land of Hyrule. Link, Zelda, and the Four Champions fought back using the power of their divine beasts. They were half-successful, though at great cost, as show during the dire world state in Breath of the Wild.

Age of Calamity is the latest in the Musou genre, or better known in the West as the Warriors series that began with Dynasty Warriors. Hyrule Warriors offers a number of playable heroes, including Link, Zelda, and Impa, as they jump into battle with armies of enemies and allies.

Each character can unleash big combos and flashy special abilities, including the huge divine beasts. Hyrule Warriors adds new elemental rods that can affect the environment, like fire, lightning, and ice. Sheikah Runes, including Cryonis and Magnesis can be used to create unique effects.

A previous Hyrule Warriors games released on the Wii U back in 2014, but wasn’t tied into any main game or story. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is out now, and rated T for Teen. A free demo is available on the Nintendo eShop.
